Planet Mountain has some info on the most recent peak fees published by the governments of India, Pakistan, Nepal and Tibet at the end of last year. This "price list" includes mountains from the lowest trekking peaks to the 8000m Himalayan giants.

A quick glance at these tables reveal that the most expensive permit is that fixed by the Nepalese government for the ascent of Everest via the South Col. To follow in Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay's footsteps, a seven-man expedition must expect to pay US$ 70,000. Noblesse obblige, or the result of an overcrowding which, notwithstanding the high costs, seems not be slowing down in the slightest?
