First Female Solo of The Nose

Jacqueline Florine became the first woman to solo The Nose on El Capitan on June 21, 2002.

Here's the scoop on how she fared:

  • June 17- First night bivy at the top of pitch 8 hanging in her hammock.
  • June 18- Second night bivy on El Cap Tower- pitch 14, and she fixed to top of Texas Flake. (see photo at right)
  • June 19- Third night bivy at Camp 4 pitch 20, and she fixed to Great Roof.
  • June 20- Fourth night bivy at Camp 6- pitch 26, and she fixed pitch 27.
  • June 21- She topped out at 1:33pm on fifth day.

Jacqueline also soloed Lurking Fear from May 29 - June 1, 2002.
