Matt Wilder and Nick Martino set a new record for the South Face of Washington Column on June 9. They climbed the route in 1:19.53. A couple days earlier, they broke the previous record on a semi-practice run with a time of 1:43.

In an email to Speedclimb.com, Matt wrote" "I have been working on freeing the route and was able to pull lots of free moves on the aid pitches to speed things up. We lead the route in 1 block without exchanging any gear which required 25 draws. We simul-climbed to the Kor Roof and then short fixed to the last pitch. Everything went smoothly and it was a lot of fun. Also, last summer I simul-climbed the regular route on Higher Spire with my brother (Andrew Wilder) in 37 minutes and climbed the East Corner of Higher Spire in 1 hour and 15 minutes."
